Motorcycle Jack Instructions

    • 1). Place a block of wood behind your motorcycle tire. A 2-by-4 or 4-by-4 piece should be sufficient. The wood is used to keep the bike from rolling off the jack stand so make sure it is sturdy enough to keep the bike from rolling backwards. It is important to have your bike on a flat, hard service when you lift the bike, since the jack lays on the ground and needs a stable surface to hold the bike up.

    • 2). Center the motorcycle jack under the primary engine block of the bike. This position is usually under the front gas tank behind the handle bars.

    • 3). Release the hydraulic valve on the jack. Jacks have the valve situated in different places depending on brand, however most releases are located on the left hand side of the jack, below the outfacing pump handle. To release the valve turn it right.

    • 4). Pump the outfacing jack handle until the bike reaches the desired height off the ground. Some hydraulic jacks have foot pedals instead of handle pumps. In this case slowly press the foot pump to jack the bike to the desired height off the ground.

    • 5). When you are done using the jack, slowly turn the hydraulics valve to the left. This will release the pressure and slowly lower your motorcycle to the ground.
