What Happens if a Person Is Caught Driving With a Learner's Permit?

Fines

One common penalty for breaking learner's permit rules is a traffic citation and fine. These fines tend not to be as heavy as those levied against those with full driving privileges. However, subsequent offenses can cause penalties to escalate quickly.

Suspension

A driver who does not abide by the stipulations of his permit could get his license suspended. Time frames for suspension can range from a few weeks to a few months, depending upon the rule broken, and how often the learner did so. Several suspensions can result in a complete license revocation.

Revocation

Perhaps the worst penalty of all is revocation of the learner's permit, thereby eliminating or delaying his chance to graduate to a full license. Revocations tend to have longer time frames than suspensions, and the new driver may be required to perform community service, or attend driving education classes, before the permit may be received again.
