    History

    • The hotel first passed into the hands of the Maier family in 1949 when the grandparents of current owner Georg Maier purchased the house and turned it into an Austrian inn. The building continued to act as an inn and passed down to his parents and eventually to him and his wife Silvia in 1994. Between 1998 and 1999 the hotel was closed for renovation work and was finally reopened in July 1999 as the new and modern hotel it is today.

    Amenities

    • The hotel features a small wellness center for those who want to relax. It comes complete with a combined sauna and steam room and a solarium. Use of this room is free of charge, but the solarium comes at a cost of five euros per session. Breakfasts are also included in the price of a room and come in four different varieties. Guests can choose from a Viennese-style breakfast with hot chocolate and cakes, a hearty breakfast complete with cheese and sausages, a vital breakfast with wholemeal foods, or a wellfit breakfast that is made up of fruit, yogurt and cereals.

    Offers

    • The hotel offers a range of different packages to its guests. As of 2010, there are a total of nine offers available all with different options and extras. The "All Inclusive" package includes a double room, one glass of sparkling wine per person, a 48-hour Salzburg card that allows free entrance to all tourist attractions and free public transport, as well as a sight-seeing tour and free bicycle use for one day. If this does not interest you, then try the "Feel Good" package, which includes a room with a waterbed, one bottle of sparkling wine, a fruit basket and the use of a bicycle for a day.

    Rooms

    • All rooms come with a shower or bath, hairdryer, radio, safe, minibar, telephone, satellite TV and Internet access. The decor includes furniture made of Austrian wood, which adds to the Alpine atmosphere. There is also a guest house called "Renate" that is situated in the hotel's garden. It comes with double rooms and quarters for up to four people.

    Attractions

    • Given its central location in the heart of the city, the Hotel zur Post is close to many of Salzburg's tourist attractions. Guests can stop by and check out the "Getreidegasse," which is the city's old shopping district, or pop into the zoo, which is home to around 140 different animal species. If that does not appeal to you, visit Mozart's birthplace, check out the city's beautiful cathedral, or take a look at the Museum of Natural History.
