Leucine Diet

    History

    • In 1819, Joseph Louis Proust discovered leucine when he isolated its impure form from cheese. In 1820, its crystalline state was isolated from muscle and wool. Laboratory synthesis established its structure in 1891.

Leucine gets its name from the Greek word "leukos," which means white. At the time that the ability to purify a substance taken from nature to a white, crystalline state was discovered and achieved, this was considered worthy of recognition.

    Advantages of Leucine

    • Increasing your intake of leucine, either by eating more foods that naturally contain this amino acid or by taking supplements, allows you to take advantage of leucine's health properties. For instance, leucine helps in losing weight that was gained through overeating. Increasing leucine in your diet also helps reduce high sugar levels and maintain them at a healthy level, and aids in the reduction of cholesterol.

    Leucine Diet

    • Shaklee has introduced a leucine diet called Cinche®. According to its website, this diet was evaluated over a 12-week period at the Health Research and Studies Center in Los Altos, Calif. During a preliminary clinical trial, participants noticed that the leucine diet helped in loss of weight and fat mass, while helping maintain lean body mass. In addition, a decrease in the body's waist-to-hip ratio was noted, which is considered important because recent findings have established that weight-to-hip ratio has been determined to be a reliable indicator of a person's risk of suffering from cardiovascular disease.

The Cinche® diet plan produced by Shaklee includes shakes, meal bars and snack bars, an energy tea mix, and a 3-in-1 metabolism booster. In addition, you can also receive a pedometer, a diet journal, and a CD that will both motivate you and provide guidelines for you as you implement and follow your leucine diet plan.

Before you incorporate the products in the Cinche® diet plan into your daily routine, and begin the diet, you should check with your health care professional who can tell you if this is the right diet for you. A doctor can also help you monitor your progress and overall health during the course of the plan.
