How to Make a Chess Set From Paper

    • 1). Draw an eight-by-eight grid on a sheet of paper. Fill in every other square with black ink.

    • 2). Create the chess pieces by clicking the chess assembly link in the resources section. Print pages 10 through 12 of the template. These pages have the designs for each chess piece.

    • 3). Cut out, fold and paste the chess pieces from the template. Make sure that there are eight pawns, two rooks, two bishops, two knights, one queen and one king for each player.

    • 4). Place each piece in its proper position on the chessboard. From the player's point of view, the knights should occupy the second-most outside squares. The bishops should surround the king and queen, who are positioned in the middle two squares of the chessboard. The white player should position his king in the white middle square. The black player should position her king in the dark middle square.
