Vico d"O Scugnizzo
Vico d'O Scugnizzo, in Pinheiros, opened in 1983 with an unabashedly Neapolitan-themed ambience. Named for Naples street urchins and designed to recreate an alley, with paintings on the walls and clothes hanging on balcony railings, this São Paulo cantina is not the craze it was two decades ago, when the Henrique Schauman area was all the rage.
However, the dining room still has live Italian music every single night, from pop songs like Roberta to tarantella, played by a band made up of a singer, guitar and keyboard.
Food is still a reason to stop by, and the restaurant functions well as a neighborhood hangout where groups of friends meet on a regular basis.
The décor was defined by stories from owner Roberto Vizzone's Neapolitan ancestors. Imaginary characters - bride and groom Nenilla and Mario; Pupetta Maresca, the widow of a Camorra member - inspired the themes which would deserve a serious restoration.
Food at Vico d'O Scugnizzo:
The cover charge (R$5) includes music and appetizers - sardela, bread, bruschetta, eggplant.
Two of the most requested dishes are the lasagna (R$32), which serves two not-so-big eaters, and the fusilli with calabresa sausage (R$28).
Accessibility:
Though not universally designed in the strictest sense, Vico d'O Scugnizzo is accessible by ramp and has restrooms that are roomy enough for wheelchairs.
