How to Join a PVC Pipe
- 1). Hook the tape measure on the end of the PVC pipe and mark the cut length on the surface of the PVC pipe with the pencil.
- 2). Align the blade of the PVC cutter with the pencil mark you placed on the surface of the PVC pipe. Make sure that the PVC pipe is resting firmly on the bottom of the PVC cutter, as this will ensure that the end of the PVC is cut square. Pull the handles of the PVC cutter together to cut the PVC pipe.
- 3). Use a piece of emery cloth around the cut end of the PVC pipe to remove any bur left by the PVC cutter.
- 4). Slide the PVC fitting over the cut end of the PVC pipe and run the pencil around the PVC pipe, at the end of the PVC fitting. Remove the PVC fitting from the cut end of the PVC pipe.
- 5). Apply PVC primer to the interior socket of the PVC fitting and exterior surface of the PVC pipe, ensuring that you prime past the pencil line you placed on the exterior of the PVC pipe in the previous step.
- 6). Apply PVC cement to the PVC surfaces you primed in the previous step and slide the two pieces together.
- 7). Turn the fitting 90-degrees to spread the PVC cement in the connection and hold the two pieces together for 30-seconds or until the two pieces hold together to permanently join.
