What is Minimalism? Minimalism is the pursuit of simplicity.
A minimalist is a person who abhors excess.
He or she seeks to get the greatest amount of output using the least amount of input.
A minimalist knows that simplicity is key, achieving it by trimming the unnecessary stuff and activities from his or her life.
A minimalist philosophy could apply to many aspects of life, from how many possessions a person owns, to how often they check their email, to how many commitments they make with their time.
Some accuse minimalists of being lazy because they remove commitments and tasks from their lives.
Nothing is further from the truth.
By reducing their commitments and efforts, minimalists are more productive.
They are able to remove distractions and focus on the most important tasks at hand.
By focusing, minimalists can achieve the state of flow, where the world around them disappears, time files by, and they get things done.
By removing these distractions, a minimalist has a clear and productive brain.
But if you limit your possessions to less than 100, doesn't that lower your standard of living? There is a difference between standard of living and quality of life.
Just because you don't have the newest or most expensive stuff, doesn't mean you have a crappy life.
In fact, by owning fewer, high quality things, your quality of life is improved.
You have chosen quality over quantity, and can truly enjoy what you own.
Quite simply, living a minimalist lifestyle means clearing the physical and mental clutter from your life.
It means loving the things you have and improving your quality of life.
