Here are some simple tips and hints for you if you are just starting to think about raiding.
Do you want to make gold on WoW.
Okay, so you have reached level 80 and you've earned yourself some decent gear by running instances and doing some PvP.
Now you are ready to move onto the end game content, RAIDS.
Now what? Raiding in theory is basically just a more difficult instance.
Technically a raid group is at least 10 people, though most hard core WoW players only consider it a raid if there are at least 20 members in the group.
Raids require a certain amount of organization, discipline, and devotion to the group to be successful, particularly for the 25-man raids.
Make gold on WoW - Working your way up.
Few players will PUG a raid, unless it is to fill in the odd space or two needed to complete the group.
While in theory you can get to level 80 completely solo, unless you already have a high level alt that is well known in a guild or among other players, it is not a good idea to do so.
Raids aren't something that you can just walk into.
The smaller heroic 5 man instances and lower 10 man non-heroic raids are a good way to practice.
This allows players to learn to work together as a group, relying on the strengths of different team members.
Raids are by far the most difficult of the end game content.
Few players will ever kill a 25 man, level 80 boss (at least prior to the next expansion) and but a fraction of those will make it to defeating the final and hardest boss.
Bear in mind that every raiding is a team effort, so it is important to have patience and be a team player if you want to be invited back.
Why go? Most people think they are going to go on a raid to get great loot.
However, keep in mind that the good loot is often few and far between.
Building a raid group should be more about the team.
you need to find a group of players that you work well with and enjoy questing with.
If you want to enjoy the raid, then you should be in it for nothing more than the challenge of the fight.
To make gold on WoW, it is also important to bear in mind that loot is usually distributed to the player that can use it the most and will contribute the most to future successes.
If this is you, great, but if you already have decent gear keep in mind that you may need to pass that loot on to another.
Even in the best case scenario, where you are the "weakest link" in the group and therefore the most likely to receive the loot, it is important to consider the frequency of drops.
25-man raids reset on a weekly basis, which means that you can only kill that boss once per week.
Even if the boss drops two items, that still takes a minimum of two weeks for each player to get a piece of loot.
And it could take weeks for that one piece that you really need to drop.
