What Are The Healthy Fat Options?

103 28
There are several different fat types that we encounter in our everyday lives.
Some of them are essential to our health and well being, and without them, our bodies would cease to function properly.
Then there are other more harmful fats that can have a more detrimental effect on our health and lead to weight gain and other more serious diseases.
So What Fats Should We Be Avoiding? Hydrogenated oils or partially hydrogenate oils are the ones that will lead to weight gain and health issues, so should be avoided where possible! It is the chemical process behind hydrogenated oils that make them unhealthy.
The method used changes the molecular structure of the fat, so that it is unnatural and not recognized by the body, and so is treated like a toxin.
This toxin has been linked to many diseases, including birth defects, cancer, diabetes and obesity.
So I would recommend checking the labels of food products to make sure we avoid it as often as possible.
Typical foods that contain this hydrogenated oil include margarine, chips, low-fat and fat-free snacks, microwave popcorn, cookies and cereal bars.
So What Fats Should We Be Eating? Fats are essential to our health and well being! Without them your body cannot survive, your brain, hormones, immune system and digestion all depend on this essential fatty acid to function.
Omega 3 is one of the most essential fats that cannot be produced by the human body, and so needs to be consumed through the right food products.
Extensive research shows that omega 3 fatty acids are highly concentrated in the brain and have an important part to play in our cognitive and behavioural functions.
Omega 3 also helps us to prevent the risk of chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer and arthritis.
Some of the symptoms for omega 3 deficiency include extreme fatigue, poor circulation, heart problems, depression, dry skin and mood swings.
Some of the most common foods that contain omega 3 are green vegetables, salmon, sardines, organic eggs and beef.
Unrefined Coconut oil is an excellent choice of fat to use when cooking under high heat and is considered one of the healthiest oils available, and helps to increase the body's metabolic rate, which in turn will help weight loss.
Olive oil is another excellent fat, and has a lower melting point, so is best used as a salad dressing or for cooked or raw vegetables.
