Nerf Blaster Darts Safety
- Hasbro, the maker of all Nerf products, issues a warning on toys that include darts and blasters, cautioning consumers to play in a safe environment; not aim at the eyes or face; avoid modification of the toy's components; and always wear the vision gear included with the toy.
- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a toy recall of 330,000 Nerf N-Strike Recon Blasters in October 2008. This was because of a safety issue with the blaster, not the darts.
- In April 2009, "Popular Mechanics" wrote, "Nerf's foam ammo is safe for limbs and fragile furnishings."
- 1989's Nerf Blast-A-Ball was the first-ever Nerf gun.
- In 2009, the University of Colorado banned all Nerf guns from its campus--not over safety concerns, but out of fear that the blasters could be painted to look like real guns.
