Many business-related tasks have been either replaced or greatly improved with technology. The miniaturization of electronic devices allows businesspeople to use micro-digital recorders instead of dictation. Modern printers and copiers replaced mimeographs. Documents once requiring shipment are faxed, attached to emails, or routed to a network printer next to an administrative assistant's desk who then delivers it to an executive who can be in the same building or on the other side of the world. - Sherri Yeargin is a multi-credentialed instructor for a computer training center in Greenville, S.C. She uses technology when she teaches and told me by email how technology makes things more convenient for her business.
"As a computer instructor specializing in the Microsoft Office application programs, videoconferencing technology allows me to teach courses to students in all four of the locations my organization runs across two states. Because of this, we avoid canceling courses in centers with low enrollment, so students receive the training they need when they need it. Additionally, because we can teach more students with fewer instructors, and considering savings on travel expenses incurred in transporting instructors between centers, we keep costs lower so training remains affordable for our clients, and the company maintains a healthy bottom line." - Maybelline Te, of Cebu in the Philippines, is an entrepreneur who relies on technology to accomplish her many daily tasks. Says Ms. Te, "I have a multitasking existence which enables me to get more out of life. Windows XP Home and Small Business help me in my daily life because they make everything convenient and easy, even for the tech-challenged like me."
- Entrepreneurs in the music industry are using technology to start new ways for music lovers to access tunes via the Internet. Employing cellphone networks, (and for a monthly fee) the music-minded can access and instantly play almost any song or album.
- When thought is given to how technology has made things more convenient, not just for business professions, but also how it has brought so many benefits to almost all areas of human activity, it may be difficult to imagine how humans got along without it. It is also interesting to ponder what technology will bring to humanity next.
