How Make a Coax Crimp
- 1). Cut off one end of the coaxial cable with the wire cutters or utility knife. Slide a one and one-half inch piece of 3/4-inch shrink tubing onto the cable. Slip the crimp barrel over the cable positioning it so that it is on the side of the shrink tubing closest to its cut end.
- 2). Insert the coaxial cable into the cable stripper and remove 1/2 inch of the cable's outer jacket. Fold the outer jacket back to reveal the central insulation. Strip 1/4 inch from the inner insulation so that the central conductor is exposed. Trim off 1/4 inch of the metal braid with utility knife.
- 3). Place the ferrule of the connector onto the cable. Slide the body of the SST connector onto the exposed central wire and gently push it over the white insulation until it is just under the outer jacket of the wire. The central wire should be sticking out of the end of the connector. The braid of the coax cable should be just touching the edge of the connector.
- 4). Set the coaxial wire crimping tool around the cable at the end where the braided wire is sticking out, resting it against the back edge of the body of the connector as far as possible. Apply even pressure on the crimping tool until it closes shut. Cut off the excess center wire that is sticking out past the end of the connector with the wire cutters.
- 5). Slide the 3/4 inch shrink tubing down onto the crimped wire. Heat it with the shrink gun to shrink the tubing so that it neatly hugs the cable. File off the rough edge of the center connector
