Two mouth-watering green lipped mussel recipes
Well, if you like green lipped mussel recipes, here are some interesting ways to cook them.
Now everyone already knows about the benefits of green lipped mussels and the fact that most of these benefits can only be obtained by eating the shellfish raw or taking them in the form of some specially prepared supplement - nevertheless there are those who quite simply love the taste of green lipped mussels, and for such people here are a few of my favorite green mussel recipes.
It's true that a great many of the ingredients and a lot of the nutrition present, especially the most subtle substances in green lipped mussels, are lost in the process of cooking, nevertheless, the protein content, which is over sixty percent, is retained, as are the carbohydrates and omega 3 fatty acids.
So, you can have a perfectly tasty green lipped mussel meal instead of taking these shellfish in the form of tasteless supplements, or perhaps even worse – nauseatingly raw. Now let's move on to the recipes.
- Now let's start our green lipped mussel recipes with an excellent appetizer. Take a large pot and mix around three-fourths of a cup of white wine with another three-fourth cup of clam juice and tomato puree. Add three cloves of garlic and about half a teaspoon of flaked pepper. Turn on the heat and keep it on until the mixture begins to boil. This is the point where you add the mussels. After the mussels are in (I think you can add about a pound of mussels to this dish), put the cover on and allow it to boil in its own steam for anything up to about five minutes or so. If you wish, you can keep the pot boiling until the mussels open completely. If a mussel does not open, throw it away. Now, remove the mussels and keep them somewhere where they will be warm, and drain off most of the liquids except for around a cup or so. Remember not to throw away the garlic, and boil this liquid until it's nice and concentrated. Add three tablespoons of butter to this sauce and serve the mussels with it.
- That's really one of my favorite green lipped mussel gourmet meals, but if you want green lipped mussel recipes for a different sort of dish, how about a soup? Here's an excellent thick soup - put around three-fourths of a cup of butter into a large pot along with two chopped onions, two minced cloves of garlic, and a bunch of parsley freshly chopped. Cook this over low heat, while slowly stirring it until the onions are well cooked. Now add two cans of stewed tomatoes to the pot, along with two cans of chicken broth, half a teaspoon of dried thyme, half a teaspoon of oregano, one cup of water and one and a half cups of white wine. Steam all of these for about half an hour, then add the mussels. I think about eighteen mussels should be sufficient. Cook it for seven minutes more on a very slow fire. You'll have a lovely appetizing soup to eat with warm bread.
Now it's time to start putting these recipes on the table!
