How to Measure Your Horse for a Harness
- 1). Measure your horse's head size with a measuring tape by putting the tape at the right corner of your horse's mouth and bringing it up over the top of his head, behind his ears, ending at the left corner of his mouth.
- 2). Put two fingers together and place them just below where your horse's cheek bone sticks out (toward his nose). Measure around your horse's nose at this point to find his nose size.
- 3). Find your horse's girth size by placing the measuring tape at the bottom of your horse's withers (the bump where his neck meets his back) and pulling the tape under his belly and back up to his withers at the other side.
- 4). Stretch the tape from the bottom of your horse's withers to the base of his tail to find his back size.
- 5). Measure your horse's total length by placing the tape at the front of his right shoulder on his chest and pulling it around to the right check of his rump.
- 6). Determine your horse's collar size by measuring from the top of his neck at its widest point in a straight line down to in front of his shoulder.
