How to Add the VAT on a Calculator
- 1). Find out how much VAT you should be charging for the item. The actual rate will differ according to the country where you are providing the service and what exactly it is you are selling. For example, the VAT rate in the United Kingdom on child safety seats is five percent.
- 2). Convert the VAT rate to a decimal by moving the decimal two places to the left. For example, 5 percent as a decimal is 0.05.
- 3). Enter the decimal you found in Step 2 into the calculator.
- 4). Add 1. In the above example, you should have 1.05 as a total.
- 5). Press the multiplication button.
- 6). Enter the price of the goods or service, then press the "Enter" key, the "=" key or the "Total" key (the actual button will differ according to your brand of calculator). This will give you the price of the item, with the VAT added. For example, if you were selling a car safety seat for £19.99, then your actual selling price with the VAT added would be:
1.05 * £19.99 = £20.99.
