The Shanghai Jiao Tong world university rankings for 2010 have just been released. Three universities in Australia have either held or improved their ranking amongst the top 100 universities in the world. No wonder many students the world over are moving to Australia in the pursuit of a higher education.

The Australian National University, famous in Australia for its solid educational curriculum, once again ranked as the 59th top university in the world. Although the University of Melbourne that has made the most progress. With a jump forward of 13 places, the University of Melbourne is now ranked at 62. The University of Sydney rounded out the list of Aussie universities cracking the top hundred by moving up from 94 to 92 on this years list.

Even though the United States continued to dominate the rankings (Harvard ranked as the top university in the world for the eighth straight year in a row, the University of California Berkeley second and Stanford University third), the draw Australia has on students desiring to obtain a higher education is not be underestimated. The Jiao Tong rankings are regarded as a crucial measure of a countrys economic health and stature.

Australias strong showing shows that people are not just moving to Australia in record numbers in order to take it easy on it gorgeous beaches. A higher education from top ranked university is definitely a good reason to immigrate. In addition to a strong job market, healthcare, technologically advanced society, a good education will strengthen Australias standing as a top immigration destination

Education officials in Australia are hoping next years results in Shanghai Jiao Tong world university rankings will be even better. This should make the attraction of moving to Australia, one of the worlds most popular countries, even stronger as the decade progresses.
