The job market for environmental scientists and engineers is growing as more attention is devoted to environmental concerns. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that the environmental scientist job market "is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations through 2018." The BLS projects the environmental scientist market will increase by 24.2 percent between 2006 and 2016. Top universities in America offer a variety of graduate programs in environmental science.

    • The College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) at the State University of New York (SUNY) offers multidisciplinary master's and Ph.D. programs in environmental science. According to the SUNY-ESF website, its programs "provide interdisciplinary education, research and public service to prepare students to comprehensively address environmental concerns and problems, investigate practical solutions to them, and to foster effective environmental stewardship." Admission requires prerequisite undergraduate courses and academic and/or work experience in your chosen area of study.

    Purdue University

    • Purdue University offers interdisciplinary a master's degree and Ph.D. through its Ecological Sciences and Engineering (ESE) program. The Purdue website reports the ESE program "is designed to create a foundation where students develop the knowledge and tools necessary for sustainable management of natural resources and to reduce the 'ecological footprint' of human society." The ESE program admission requirements are at least a 3.3 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, 1,200 or better on verbal and quantitative scores and 4.0 or better on analytical writing scores on the GRE and completion of math, science and statistics prerequisite courses.
