If you have been working for one company for a few years you may not be required to pass tests to monitor the progress of your knowledge and skills.
· How could you really know, whether you deserve a pay rise? · Are you slow or fast at your job? · Could someone else do it in half the time? · What is your current market value? Unless you are out in the market place again, looking for another job you may not be clearly aware of your market value.
Once you are looking for a new job, you have an opportunity to negotiate with the potential employer, to find out what your value in the market truly is.
Find the Root of your Suffering If you are feeling unsatisfied with the job you are currently working in and are not sure why, ask yourself this question: · How well am I performing? · If I was my own boss, how much would I pay this employee? · Has my performance improved according to the workload over the years? · Could I be replaced by more efficient person or some form of software? · Is there a potential for personal growth in my current position? Honest replies to these questions can shine some light at the root of the problem that is preventing you from feeling of satisfaction with your current work situation.
Money Won't Buy You Happiness Regardless of your financial situation, there is a high probability that even if you did receive a pay rise in your current position, your happiness would not last for too long, unless you are truly enjoying the work you are doing.
To check your market price and see how well you are paid now, perform a search through the job offers in your papers or on the internet.
Choose the positions that you could apply for.
They will usually have the offered salary listed.
There are also statistics available on job search websites, where you will be able to compare similar positions in your field and even specifically relating to your local area.
