It is unfortunate that so many people who are so knowledgeable about a given topic, and cannot get a job in their fields of study.
Folks that have degrees in geology are needed for infrastructure projects, soil testing, geothermal energy, and a myriad of alternative energy projects which are going to be built.
They are even needed by large developers of real estate.
Of course with the real estate industry is in the tank, and the fact that the stimulus package didn't produce the number of shovel ready jobs that we had hoped for, folks like this gal with a geology degree cannot find work.
So I ask, what's a geology major to do, literally, where can they go to find a job? Right now, there may not be any and they may have to wait until the future to find meaningful work.
Meanwhile, they will have college loans to pay off, and need to make a living.
Where will they work, what will they do? As the college student and I talked, I realized that she had made the right choice - she went back to school to get retrained in an industry sector that was actually hiring right now.
In fact, she was getting ready to take her finals for this semester and she would only have one more semester left to get a degree in IT.
And it's a good thing too, as she is running out of money, and she has two kids to support.
The unemployment issues in our country are getting rather tough on folks, and there are far too any people who are over qualified taking jobs that are not meaningful at all.
Apparently, she didn't want to become a statistics, and she is taking action.
Please consider all this.
