In Australia, to make a bet is to have a flutter, whether it is on the racetrack, at the betting agencies popularly known as TABs, or in the country's casinos.

Adelaide, South Australia

Located on the northern edge of Adelaide city centre, Adelaide Casino is located in the heritage-listed Adelaide Railway Station on North Terrace, with some 90 gaming tables and 950 gaming machines.

It is operated by Sky City Entertainment Group which also operates casinos in New Zealand in Auckland, Hamilton and Queenstown, and in Australia in Darwin.

Adelaide Casino was renamed Skycity Adelaide in 2001 and reverted to its original and present name in 2009.

Because of the city's street layout, driving to Adelaide Casino means simply driving north to North Terrace and and heading east or west depending on which route you take. From West Terrace or Morphett St, head east on North Teerrace; from King William St, Pulteney St or other streets in the east, head west on North Terrace. The casino is at the junction of North Terrace and Junction Rd.

If going by public transport, a majority of city buses terminate on King William St, a short walk to the casino. The Glenelg tram terminates opposite the casino.

Alice Springs, Northern Territory

Unlike most other Australian casinos, the Lasseter Hotel Casino's gaming rooms are not open all hours, with electric gaming (slot machines, Keno, TAB) usually available from 10am and the main gaming floor open from 2pm to 3am Sunday to Thursday and until 4am Friday and Saturday.

Roulette, blackjack and other popular casino games are available on the gaming tables.

Lasseter's Hotel Casino lies just south of Alice Springs city centre across the Todd River. As a distance guide, it is just over 3 kilometres from Alice Springs train station.

Depending on which section of the city you're coming from, you might head to Larapinta Dr which crosses Stuart Highway in the east into Stott Terrace. Just before Todd River, head south on South Terrace, left across Todd River into the start of Tuncks Rd, then south on Barrett Dr.

Lasseter's Hotel Casino has 4.5-star hotel accommodation, restaurants and bars, and is adjacent to Alice Springs Golf Course.


Brisbane, Queensland


Treasury Casino, 130 William St, Brisbane, Queensland 4000. Telephone +617-3306-8888.

The Treasury Casino on William St overlooking Brisbane River in Brisbane is housed in the magnificent 19th century Treasury Building of Edwardian-Baroque exterior design. It is part of the Treasury Casino and Hotel complex which extends into the adjoining Lands Administration Building, and includes hotel suites and hotel rooms, restaurants, bars, music and dance venues, and function rooms.

Within the complex are three levels of gaming floor in the Treasury Building with some 80 gaming tables and more than 1300 gaming machines.

The Treasury Casino and Hotel complex is open all hours.

If driving to Treasury Casino, undercover parking is available. This is accessed from the George St entrance located next to Queens Park. Under certain conditions, particularly for Abolute Rewards members, free or discounted carpark rates are available; otherwide, full parking rates apply.

If going by public transport, the casino is adjacent to Brisbane's Myer Centre which is also the hub of the city's bus network. If taking a river ferry, the casino is a short walk from the North Quay jetties.


Cairns, Queensland

For those staying in Cairns and exploring the Great Barrier Reef, the Reef Hotel Casino just south of the Reef Fleet Terminal provides land-based gaming and other entertainment.

Gaming tables and more than 500 gaming machines, undercover parking for 320 cars, restaurants, bars, music and dance venues, and hotel rooms at the Pullman Reef Hotel are features of this waterside venue.

The casino is open from 9am daily and until 3am Sunday to Thursday and until 5am Friday and Saturday.


Canberra, Australian Capital Territory

Opened in 1994, Casino Canberra is relatively small in comparison with those in other Australian capital cities. Unlike these other casinos, Casino Canberra does not operate gaming slot or poker machines.

Casino Canberra, among a number of varied Canberra attractions, is located in central Canberra east of London Circuit at the southern end of Northbourne Ave in the area known as Civic.

If coming from the north, drive along Northbourne Ave, turn left into London Circuit, left into Constitution Ave, then left down the ramp to underground parking at the National Convention Centre. Follow the signs through the stairs to the casino.

From the south get on Commonwealth Ave and take the London Circuit after the bridge across Lake Burley Griffin and continue as above.

The casino is open daily from 1pm to 4am. The Galaxy Nightblub is open Saturdays from 9pm, and there's live music at The Grill Friday and Saturday nights from 9pm.

Darwin, Northern Territory

Skycity casino in Darwin originally started as Mindil Beach Casino in 1979 and through a succession of ownerships became Diamond Beach Hotel and Casino, then MGM Grand Darwin, before it was bought by Skycity Entertainment Group in 2004 and renamed Skycity Darwin.

As a casino, hotel and entertainment complex, Skycity Darwin has gaming tables for old and new favorites and more than 700 electronic gaming machines, as well as restaurants, bars, coffee lounges, and boutique-style accommodation on 18 acres of beachside resort close to both Mindil Beach and the central business district.

If driving, turn into Goyder Rd from the Stuart Highway, then south into Gilruth Ave. From Fannie Bay, take East Point Rd crossing Goyder Rd to Gilruth Ave.
