    • 1). Find your ideal destination on St. John, St. Thomas, St. Croix or Water Island. Beaches and resorts might have great deals in October since it is not part of the high tourist season. For details, browse usvitourism.vi, the official tourist website of the islands.

    • 2). Reserve your travel dates and transportation. Book a flight into St. Thomas or St. Croix. The airports on both islands have service on major airlines from North America and Europe. Passengers often fly through San Juan, Puerto Rico, or Miami, but you can book direct flights from several major U.S. cities, including New York, Newark, Baltimore, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Boston, Charlotte, Detroit, Chicago and Fort Lauderdale. You also can book a cruise to the U.S. Virgin Islands starting in the U.S. or Europe, ending on St. Thomas or St. Croix. Inter-island ferry and airline service is available on small local lines and air carriers.

    • 3). Pack for hot, wet weather. Temperatures remain at their summer levels of around 90 degrees F in October, with high humidity and a fair amount of rain. Lightweight linens and a rain poncho are good bets for clothing. Sunblock, hats and other sun protection are highly recommended.

    • 4). Determine whether you need a passport. If you are a U.S. citizen, you will only need a photo ID, such as a driver's license. From any other country, you'll need a passport. Visa regulations to visit the U.S. Virgin Islands are the same as those for visiting the continental United States.
