How to Make New Towels More Absorbent
- 1). Wash your new towels in hot water a couple of times to make them more absorbent. When they were made, usually a fabric softener was added that leaves a coating on the towels. You'll get rid of that as well as the excess coloring that was also part of the manufacturing process.
- 2). Rinse the towels in a solution comprised of a cup of vinegar and the normal water in the cycle. Then add a half-cup of baking soda to the water during the second rinse cycle. Both lead to more absorbent towels, but there is an added feature as the vinegar will rid the towels of stains and smells and the baking soda will clean and whiten them more than plain laundry detergent. Just don't use both in the same cycle and avoid washing other items because the towels might lose some of their color and damage them.
- 3). Add two clean tennis balls or any others made of rubber as you add your towels to the dryer. They will make them more absorbent and they will be fluffier.
- 4). Hang your towels on a clothesline out-of-doors so they will smell fresher. However, they might be less absorbent after they dry, so put them into the dryer for a couple of minutes to soften them.
