How to Naturally Repel an Ant Infestation

103 34
As always I get asked by friends about my old job, instead of my current one.
I guess it really was more helpful and interesting.
Though I don't think anyone from pest control services will tell you the same.
So, the pest I was lastly asked about were ants.
Ant infestations can be dangerous, because it's pretty hard to get rid of them.
Well, not as hard as cockroaches and they're not as disgusting as them either, but let them find your food supplies and you can consider your food gone.
These tiny little organized visitors enter your home from an anthill pretty close to your house and make their own pathways to any food you have out in the open.
So, the first thing you should do is NOT LEAVE YOUR FOOD OUT IN THE OPEN.
Makes common sense, but who am I to say it? I'm pretty sloppy myself and even though I know leaving my unfinished food on the table will attract ants I do it anyway, because I'm lazier than all of you put together.
Anyway, if you see one ant in your home, be sure there will be more.
At first ants send a little spy to check the perimeter, see if there is a food source and then come back to headquarters, tell everyone what he found and then they will attack mercilessly.
The food source I'm talking about may be a few breadcrumbs on the floor - it's enough to get the whole battalion of soldiers invade your territory.
So, what should we do first? You guessed it - we should clean, clean, clean! Or, if you have the luck to spot the little spy, just squash it and lots of headaches will be gone.
But, if the infestation is in its progress already, it's time to try with natural ant repellents, brought to you by Mother Nature.
#1.
Spices
- cinnamon, mint, chilli peppers, black pepper, garlic, bay leaves, cloves make ants keep away.
Sprinkle in the pathways you see ants coming into your house.
It won't be hard, since they march in perfect order.
#2.
Coffee grounds
- instead of throwing them away in the garbage, gather all the coffee grounds and spread them in your yard, or garden, where the ants have made their hideout.
It's another smell ants can't tolerate and will make them go away (hopefully).
The good thing about it is with this you can also repel stray cats.
#3.
Cucumber and citrus peels
- spread them both outside and inside the house.
Cucumber and citrus peels don't even need to be cleaned up from the yard, because organic trash is good for the soil.
