Tips on How to Avoid Bed Bugs

Bed bugs used to be a nuisance of the past from days long gone by.
However, the return of the bed bug is here again and escalating.
They have been found in hotels, airports, offices and homes.
These bugs are very tiny but are not difficult to see.
They travel with people unaware of transporting them, via Backpacks, Luggage or clothes.
Here are a few tips to use to avoid getting them in your home.
1- Office work space needs to be clutter free.
Inspect incoming packages for bugs.
They can be carried from office to home on your purse, shoes, sweater or caps worn.
2- Be cautious in hotel rooms.
Pull back the covers on the bed and inspect all areas, mattress seams and headboards.
Look over the room furniture as well as cushions and pillows before unpacking.
Any signs of pest found should alert you to change rooms.
Do not accept a room that is next to the one you found the signs of pest in.
Chances are, bed bugs would be there also.
3- If you have been traveling and return home.
Inspect everything before you walk inside your living space.
Look thoroughly at your shoes.
Check the luggage and back packs as they hitch a ride on them.
Look at the straps and the bottoms of the luggage or back pack.
After checking shoes and luggage, once inside remove your traveling clothes and place them in the clothes dryer as a precautionary measure.
Bed bugs do not tolerate the heat of at least 113 degrees.
4- In the bedroom, place flypaper or sticky tape under the bed post.
The headboard should be at least two inches from the wall.
Avoid using a bed skirt that touches the floor.
Bed skirts can be excellent hiding places for bed bugs.
Box spring and mattress covers help deter the pest.
5- Vacuum your living space thoroughly everyday.
6- New clothes that are purchased need to be washed immediately.
The possibility exists that new clothing could carry a bed bug.
Someone else may have tried on the garment that you purchased.
We have to be conscientious of everything in order to avoid infestation.
7- Should you find them in your home after taking these precautions, please contact an expert exterminator.
Regular roach or bug spray will not work effectively.
