How To Be A Good Music Beat Maker

102 55
In the music game there are few that are really successful beat makers. Most find that learning how to make music beats is not enough to succeed. If you look at the resume of a successful music beat maker such as Pharrell Williams, you can see what I mean. This legend has worked with more artists than you can shake a stick at and he's multi-talented too.

Of course, even the big players in the music business began small before they became successful. Building a network of clientele is one way to expand and make more money, but unless you can make great beats every time you're not going to move up on the ladder.

Being a beat maker does mean you'll have to spend money on music equipment and have a vast selection of samples and effects. Putting a beat together isn't the hard part, making it sound good is. You need samples, effects and instruments to make a standard beat pop. A real music beat maker knows how to make simple drum loops interesting and how to create different styles.

Immerse yourself in music and try and think outside the box when creating beats. A good way to enhance your skills is to listen to new beats and try and recreate them. Think about how you can change it and even try and make it better. Don't listen to just one genre of music and keep building your sample library.

To build up clients you can take an existing song and remix it to create a new sound. This will get you thinking about the whole song and not just a single loop. Additionally, it's another way to get known by other artists and sell your material.

Expand your style of music and make other beat styles so you can expand your client base. Creating great beats is merely the first step. The next step to solely creating beats and selling them is to get into producing music.

Being able to work with other artists and turn an idea into music is a great skill. When you start producing great music that's when word gets around and other artists become interested in collaborations. However, don't get too excited yet. You need to work on your own skills and music before you start working with others.

It's easy to get stuck in a rut of creating beats that are mediocre or even bad. All artists and producers make duds. When you get stuck for ideas, go out, chill out to some music or meditate. Listen to other genres that you don't usually listen to for inspiration and ideas.

Making great beats will get easier and easier the more you create beats. You will probably find that you'll have a file full of dud beats, but don't worry. Keep all your beats even if they're not so hot. On a day that you're stuck for a beat you can pull out your old files and rework some loops.
