- 1). Look at your USB ports, as they may be labeled 1.0, 1.1 or 2.0. Remember that you may have ports on the front and back panels of your computer, and they may operate at different speeds. If your ports aren't labeled, continue to Step 2.
- 2). Right-click the "My Computer" icon on your desktop. If the icon isn't there, look for it in the "Start" menu located in the bottom-left corner of your screen.
- 3). Select "Properties" from the menu options.
- 4). Click the tab labeled "Hardware."
- 5). Choose "Device Manager" from the options provided.
- 6). Click the "+" symbol beside the option "Universal Serial Bus Controllers." This displays a list of USB controllers.
- 7). If any of these list items include the word "Enhanced," such as "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller," or if they specify "USB2" or "USB 2.0," then your system supports USB 2.0.

- 3). Click "More Info." This displays a window containing information about your system. The menu on the left offers a list of hardware, network and software profiles. The main window on the right displays details about these items.
- 4). Choose "USB" from the menu on the left. Then select "USB High-Speed Bus" or any option containing the words "High-speed" from the menu on the right. Look in the window below this menu for "Speed." If the speed is "480 Mb/sec," your computer supports USB 2.0.
- 5). If you don't see the "USB High-Speed Bus," click on all options that read "USB Bus" and look at the info under "Speed." If all are "12 Mb/sec," your computer does not support USB 2.0.
