    • 1). Log on to your laptop and click the "Start" button. Choose "Control Panel," then double-click the "Performance and Maintenance" icon.

    • 2). Double-click "System," then go to the "Hardware" tab. Click "Hardware Profiles."

    • 3). Choose "Docked Profile" or "Undocked Profile," then click "Copy." Type a name for the new profile, then click "OK."

    • 4). Click "Properties," then choose "This is a portable computer." Click "Always include this profile when Windows starts."

    • 5). Go back to the "Hardware" tab and click "Device Manager." Click through each of the categories, and right-click any devices you want to use in the undocked profile but not the docked profile (or vice versa). For instance, you might want to enable the built-in network card when the laptop is docked but disable it when the unit is undocked and using a wireless connection. Choose the "Do not use this device in the current hardware profile (disable)."

    • 6). Click "Available hardware profiles," then use the arrow button to choose the profile you want to use by default. Go to the "Hardware profile selection" box, and set the amount of time the laptop should wait before loading the default hardware profile. Click "OK" to accept your choice.
