Denmark Without a Visa?

Visa free travel to Denmark was initiated in the late 1985 when the European countries signed an agreement allowing visa free travel within the member countries. The agreement was then extended to Schengen area and consequently named the Schengen agreement . In this agreement, the citizens from the European union countries and Schengen area can thus travel freely within the Schengen area with a common visa referred to as Schengen visa.


 

Who Can Travel to Denmark Visa Free?

Denmark is one of the signatories to this agreement therefore, citizens from Schengen countries and the European Union member countries are accorded visa free travel to Denmark. Additionally, this exemption is extended to other countries including the United States of America, Australia, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Mauritius, Australia, Argentina, Japan, Moldavia, New Zealand, Singapore, Israel, Sychelles and South Korea among others.

Visa Free Travel Conditions:

A central travel database containing all the information for the Schengen and European union member states is maintained. This enhances the travel verification and validation process.For those travelers who qualify for visa free travel, several conditions must be fulfilled to allow one to travel to Denmark. 

i) One must possess a valid travel document such as a Passport or a National Identity Card. Citizens of European Union member states and Schengen area allowed to use their National Identity Cards.

On the other hand, citizens from exempted countries must provide a valid passport that is valid for three months. Any of these travel documents must have been issued within the last 10 years by the respective country.

ii) One must also substantiate and document clearly the purpose of the visit and for how long one intends to stay in Denmark. 

iii) One should not be declared as 'undesirable' by the Schengen Information System (SIS).

iv) One should not have been expelled by a Denmark court or by immigration authorities from Denmark, or banned/denied from entering or re-entering Denmark at the border.

v) One should be able to raise the necessary funds that will be used for the trip and for personal use during the stay in Denmark. The amount of resources needed will depend on the nature of the trip and the duration of stay.

vi) One should not be listed in the United Nations and the European Union sanction lists.

How Long Can You Stay in Denmark Without a Visa?

Visa free travel to Denmark is limited to a maximum of 90 days that may be one long period of stay or divided to several stay periods amounting to the maximum 90 days. For citizens from Schengen area and Nordic countries, the 90 days include days spent in other Schengen area and Nordic countries. Citizens from countries such as the United States, Australia, Canada, Chile, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Korea and Singapore are given a maximum period of 90 days visa free, which is including the entry and exit day.

Visa free travel to Denmark is applicable to short stays and therefore citizens intending to work in Denmark must obtain a work permit.

Finally, It is important to note that visa free travel to Denmark can be allowed for citizens holding a diplomatic passport, a special service passport and an official passport.
