- St. Augustine, Florida, the oldest city in the United States, was founded by Spanish explorers in 1565. Not surprisingly, historic sites like the downtown Colonial Spanish Quarter Museum are a big part of its draw. But the city also boasts 42 miles of beaches a few miles to the east of downtown, and that's where visitors will find several outstanding camping resorts.
- The North Beach Camp Resort has a great location on a barrier island four and a half miles north of downtown St. Augustine. On the west side of its 30-acre wooded plot, the camp borders the North River. On its east side, just across the road, is the Atlantic Ocean and a sandy beach. RV and tent campers can choose from riverfront, river view and standard campsites with 20-, 30- or 50-amp hookups. The resort also offers cabins, which come with kitchenettes, artificial fireplaces, TV with DVD players, and porches outfitted with picnic tables and propane grills. Facilities include a boat ramp and fishing pier on the river side and an oceanfront deck on the beach side. North Beach Camp Resort also has its own sightseeing boat, the Victory III, and guests can sign up for a cruise at a discounted price. The resort's riverfront restaurant, Aunt Kate's, serves a menu featuring items like steamed oysters, shrimp, steak, salad and soup, while The Reef Restaurant offers a similar menu plus live entertainment on the ocean side. Additional facilities at the North Beach Camp Resort include a campground store, public bathroom with hot showers, and a laundry facility.

The resort has sites for RVs up to 75 feet in length, hookups up to 50 amps, and picnic tables and grills at every site. The KOA also rents air-conditioned one- and two-room cabins and features tent camping sites. Free Wi-Fi is available at all sites and cabins. On-site recreational opportunities include a swimming pool, game room, playground, horseshoe pits and a fishing lake with paddle boats. The KOA's convenience store sells RV supplies like LP gas, and the public bathrooms include hot showers. The resort is a short walk from a variety of dining options, including Amici Italian Restaurant, Sunset Grille, Barnacle Bill's Seafood House and Black Knight Polish Deli. In addition, the KOA is also located a mile and a half from the entrance to Anastasia State Park, home to a tidal salt marsh and four miles of undeveloped beach. It's a popular spot for canoeing, kayaking, swimming, fishing and hiking the nature trails that wind among sand dunes.

And thanks to its location abutting the Intracoastal Waterway, it also has waterfront sites, a boat ramp and a fishing dock. Campsite amenities include 30-, 50- and 100-amp hookups, as well as cable TV connections. For recreation, guests can enjoy shuffleboard, horseshoes, volleyball and basketball courts, or they can rent a canoe, kayak or bicycle from the resort office. The Ocean Grove also has a swimming pool, Jacuzzi, playground, and recreation hall with a big-screen TV, movie library and Wi-Fi service. Additional facilities include a convenience store, LP gas station and laundry room.
