However a lack of sleep can have many downsides that can also affect you mentally and physically.
In the fast paced world that we live into day many people think that sleep gets in the way of getting things done. When you look at the fact most people spend a third of their lives asleep there may be a good argument for this. However, there is a reason why we sleep so much. Sleep is an important part in helping to repair and rejuvenate the mind and body. A lack of sleep affects us in many ways and in this article I will focus on two negative aspects and these include the following:

Premature aging

There are many people that scorn sleep they think it is a waste of time and that you get plenty of sleep when you are dead. The kinds of people who have this belief are commonly very ambitious people who sleep only a few hours a day. However, medical research has found that people who live this kind of lifestyle will age faster compared to people who have the habit of getting a good night sleep.  As pointed out the body needs time to repair and rejuvenate the brain and our body cells. A lack of sleep hinders the body's growth hormones to repair our cells and in terms of our skin this results in an increase in wrinkles. Sufficient sleep also plays an important role in strengthening our immune system which protects the body from diseases, infections and free radicals that damage our skin cells.

Moods & Emotions

Many health experts believe that a lack of sleep is the cause of many stress related physical and emotional diseases and illnesses. Research studies have discovered a strong link between deprived sleep and depression. This is believed because certain activities that are controlled by our brains include the functions of making decisions and how we control our emotions. Therefore, it is considered that a good night's sleep can help our emotional functions to perform more effectively during the day.
As you can see the benefits of getting enough sleep will help you physically and mentally. If you want to look and feel great then, get into the habit of a having a good night's sleep.
