Tag Letter Styles
- The tag style of graffiti writing, unlike many of the others, is known more for its content rather than its artistic value. The tag style is essentially a signature of the graffiti artist and is usually easy to decipher, unlike some other styles. The purpose of tag style graffiti is essentially to become known and recognized in the areas in which the tag is used. As this is a signature of sorts, tags are sometimes used in conjunction with other, more complex graffiti styles.
- Similar to tag, the throw-up style of graffiti writing is relatively quick and usually not too complex. This style requires the graffiti artist to begin by laying down a single-colored coat of paint on the surface. Then the throw-up artist outlines a message in a contrasting color. The result is a message that passersby can readily view.
- The blockbuster method of graffiti takes a bit longer than the tag and throw-up styles, but the result does share some of the same characteristics. The blockbuster style will often use large areas, and the artist's message is shown using large, block-style letters. The result is an easy-to-read message, as is the case with tag and throw-up. However, because of its size and attention to detail, blockbuster graffiti takes longer to complete.
- One of the more complex and artistic of all the graffiti styles, the wild style usually involves the blending of several colors, shapes and text. The result is what at first glance appears to be a hodgepodge of colors, making the message sometimes difficult to decipher. The complexity of this style of graffiti will often take the artist much longer to complete than other styles.
