- 1). Contact your state's bar association. Each one has the name of every consumer attorney licensed to practice law in your state. They also list complaints on lawyers and can steer you away from a consumer attorney that has been in trouble in the past.
- 2). Use the American Bar Association's lawyer directory. It will give you listings of members who are practicing in your area. However, this directory will limit you to a consumer attorney that is a member of the American Bar Association.
- 3). Contact your local civil court systems for a listing of consumer lawyers that currently try cases there. Although this may exclude some consumer lawyers that may practice, but have not tried a case in while, this will keep you hiring a lawyer who only dabbles as a consumer attorney. The consumer lawyers you find here will at least be experienced at going to court.
