- On most supply hoses the connectors and fittings are not replaceable. The fittings are attached right to the top of the hose using a metal or plastic clamp. In some cases the fitting is installed on the hose before the end is manufactured, so removing or replacing the fitting is impossible, which is alright because replacing the entire hose is easier. However, if removing the fitting is possible, do so by unscrewing it with an adjustable wrench and installing a new one.
- When removing a supply line, you need to shut off the water supply. Right near the end of the supply line, where it connects to the water pipe, is a valve. Turn this valve clockwise until it no longer turns at all, which shuts off all water to the supply line, allowing removal. Once the water is off, turn both of the fittings counterclockwise and remove the line.
- To replace the supply line, find a matching replacement from a hardware or plumbing store. Your replacement must have the proper diameter fittings on each end. On kitchen faucet supply lines, each end is a different diameter. One is typically 1/4 inch; the other is usually 1/2 inch. However, you might want to take your supply line to the store and match both ends, or ask for help in matching your supply line to a new one.
- Once you have the right supply line, install it back on your appliance. Thread the first fitting onto the water pipe, and tighten it by hand until secure. Run the other end up to the faucet or toilet, depending on which supply line you are replacing. Thread the fitting on, and tighten it by hand. You can tighten each fitting with a pair of pliers or a wrench to tighten them even more securely, which prevents leaks from cropping up down the road.
