    • 1). The best way to inform yourself of the exact ATF job requirements is by going to the ATF government site at www.atf.gov and making sure that you have what they are looking for. Once you've arrived at their web site you can click "careers" and read the information on the next page. It will explain the different offerings that the ATF has and also includes an FAQ section.

    • 2). As a general rule they want people who are very intelligent, dedicated, and have a college degree or extensive experience. If you have a degree they like it to be a 4 year degree in a field that is related to their line of work, similar to the FBI requirements. This could be in computer science, law enforcement, and chemistry or forensics among others. If you don't have a college degree you might experience a lot of difficulty compared to other applicants if you don't have a vast amount of law enforcement investigative experience.

    • 3). Count on having a clean record. Since you'll be thoroughly investigated by a background check and also be required to take a lie detector test, you won't be able to fudge or fib on any of your details either. Because of the nature of the work they need people who aren't risky or have questionable pasts. These stringent standards are part of the ATF job requirements because they have an important job of keeping the public safe, and they need individuals of the utmost quality.

    • 4). Any current or recent drug usage will pretty much disqualify you from working for the ATF. This should be a no brainer, but it is worth saying. Since many of the individuals that they apprehend are mixed up in drug usage and their agents are required to make important and critical decisions, they cannot employ anyone who could potentially be under the influence of any type of drug or substance.

    • 5). Passing a doctors physical, being at least twenty one years old, and being a US citizen are some of the final basic ATF job requirements. If you have any medical conditions you might not get hired because their agents need to be in great physical shape to deal with any type of physical altercation or job duties that are physically demanding.
