How to Remove Windows XP Update's Backup Files

    • 1). Click the Windows "Start" button and select "All Programs". Click the "Accessories" program group icon, and then click "System Tools". Click "Disk Cleanup" in this list of shortcuts.

    • 2). Select a drive from the dialog window. Click "OK" to load the backups on the drive you selected. This may take several minutes.

    • 3). Click the "More Options" tab at the top of the window. This lists three sections where you can delete files.

    • 4). Click "Cleanup" in the "System Restore" section. This deletes your system backup files except for the most recent, ensuring that you still have backups in case your computer fails.
