Which are the Different Carpet Cleaning Methods?
The first and most common method is the shampooing technique in which the carpet is spread with cleaning foam which is then allowed to dry so that the residue that is left behind will attract all the dirt, dust and debris embedded deep within the fibers. It is important that the right type of shampoo is used for this process; some of the qualities of this agent must be that it must produce high levels of foam to reduce the amount of wetting and should also have a high lubricity to minimize damage to the fibers. The shampoo used for the carpet cleaning process must also dry out to a non-sticky residue to avoid resoiling of the carpet or rug.
The other preferred method for carpet cleaning is the dry cleaning method in which no water is used and hence the carpet can be used as soon as the cleaning process is over. A dry absorbent compound is applied all over the carpet and a scrubbing machine is used to so that the compound can reach the bottom depths of the fibers and pull out all kinds of dirt, dust and debris. A detergent prespray can also be used on heavy soiled and stained areas to ensure that the carpet gets thoroughly clean. Once the scrubbing process is over, a powerful vacuum cleaner is used to remove all traces of the cleaning compound and the carpet gets clean and dry.
The carbonated or bonnet method is another type of cleaning technique that can be used to remove dirt and stains from carpets and rugs. In this method, a cleaning solution is applied on the carpet and a rotary or oscillating brush is used to clean the carpet. But there are many professionals who do not recommend this method as it tends to cause fiber damage and distortion which may leave behind distinct swirl marks on the carpet.
The most recommended carpet cleaning method is steam or hot water extraction method and is considered to be the best deep cleaning method for rugs and carpets. In this a fine spray of water and detergent is used on the carpet which is recovered along with the dislodged dirt and debris using a powerful vacuum cleaner. Professionals tend to use truck-mounted units which are very powerful and hence can dislodge and clean the carpet fibers thoroughly. The temperature of the water-detergent solution varies according to the type of machine used and can range from cold, boiling to even super heated water. This technique is the best for those who have pets at home as it helps draw out all the shed hairs and even the minute fleas.
