How to Remove Black Bars on a Widescreen Notebook

    Windows XP

    • 1). Right-click an empty area on your computer desktop and click "Properties."

    • 2). Click the "Settings" tab in the pop-up dialog box.

    • 3). Slide the peg up and down the "Screen Resolution" bar to configure different screen resolution settings. Click "Apply" to see what that particular screen resolution will look like. Experiment for awhile until you find the resolution that fits your widescreen notebook and eliminates the black bars. Click "OK" when you're finished.

    Windows Vista/Windows 7

    • 1). Right-click an empty area on your computer desktop and select "Screen Resolution" from the list of given options.

    • 2). Navigate the peg up and down the "slider bar" to change your screen's resolution size.

    • 3). Let go of the "slider peg" when you find the right screen resolution size that eliminates the black bars and looks appropriate to you. Click "OK" to save. Click "Cancel" to start the process over.
