    • 1). Use a gardening trowel to lift the asparagus crowns from the soil. Dig wide enough around the crown to ensure that it isn't damaged.

    • 2). Place the crowns on a layer of dry peat moss in a sealable container. Don't allow them to touch each other.

    • 3). Seal the container and place it in an area that remains between 30 and 32 degrees Fahrenheit. This temperature range is crucial for the viability of the crowns. Temperatures under 28 degrees and above 35 may damage them irreparably.
