How to Propagate Watermelon Peperomia
- 1). Fill a 3-inch pot with equal parts peat and perlite up to the rim of the pot. Water the pot to moisten the material and dampen it without leaving it soggy.
- 2). Select two stems on your current plant -- each stem should contain between one to four leaves -- to use as your cutting. Cut the stems from the plant 1/2 inch above the soil level.
- 3). Wet the bottom inch of each cutting and dip it into the rooting powder. Slip the powdered end of the cutting down into the soil to 2 to 3 inches deep. Work the soil around the stems to hold the cuttings upright.
- 4). Set the pot in a warm, well-lit area of your home that is bright and sunny but not in direct sunlight. Check the soil daily and water it as needed to keep it moist. Roots should form within three to five weeks.
- 5). Feed the cuttings with liquid fertilizer weekly to keep nutrients in the soil rich. When new growth appears, move the pot to a sunny window.
