- 1). Ensure the computer you wish to use Readiris with has access to a connected scanner and that the scanner is powered on. Log on to the system with an administrative account and insert your Readiris installation disc into the computer's optical drive.
- 2). Click "Readiris" and select a language to begin the installation. Readiris requires 256 MB of RAM and at least 120 MB of free hard disk space. It runs on Mac OS X and Windows 2000 or newer.
- 3). Open Readiris. Click anywhere inside the startup screen and wait for the OCR wizard to open. Select the scanner from the list of available devices and click "Next." If you wish to capture from an image file instead, select "Image file" from the initial screen.
- 4). Click "Change" to alter the scanner's settings. These settings depend on the scanner's model, but usually include resolution and page layout options. Click "Next" to continue. These options are not available if you wish to convert an image file.
- 5). Click the "Change" button if you wish to scan a document in a language other than American English. Click and drag the slider to give priority to either the "Speed" or "Accuracy" settings. Choose "Accuracy" if the document you wish to scan is deteriorating, blurry or difficult to read. Click "OK" and then "Next."
- 6). Click "Change" to set the output program. Readiris can output scanned documents into a variety of programs listed in the "Send To" list or create a file from the "External File" options. Make a selection and click "OK." Options that are unavailable for your system or not installed will not be selectable.
- 7). Insert the document you wish to convert into the scanner bed. Click "Next" and then "Go" to execute the conversion and create or export the results as specified.
