Ground mole removal can be tricky if not done correctly.
Ground moles are small insectivores that weigh less than a pound.
Moles live underground and eat earthworms.
The annoying thing about moles is that they create runways, tunnels that run the length of your yard, and dirt mounds.
Moles can destroy lawns and gardens fast.
You can learn to live with moles.
Moles are not dangerous; they just make your yard look terrible.
If you don't want to learn to co-exist with them peacefully, you may want to get rid of them.
There are many different ways to eradicate ground moles.
Ground mole removal techniques vary from trapping and poisoning to flooding and the strange vinegar and pickle juice home remedies.
The most popular ways to get rid of moles is by trapping and poisoning them.
But there are a few handy ways to get rid of moles by using cheap home remedies.
Castor Oil Castor oil will change the flavor and the smell of the insects, earth worms and dirt.
The mole will believe that the earthworms are not edible and will leave.
To do this you would need to measure how many square feet you are dealing with.
Then get a large bag of castor oil granules.
For every one thousand square feet spread one pound of castor oil granules.
Flushing Another great way to do a ground mole removal is to flush it out.
First you would have to find the most active runways.
Try stomping on the runways and when you find an area that collapses, chances are you found a good runway.
If within 24 hours the tunnel has been fixed it is a high active area for the mole.
Using your hose at full force put in a mole hole and let the water flow.
The mole will get flooded out and will leave.
Don't do this if you have many runways since it can collapse your entire yard and fill it with mud.
Small Dogs Some breeds are meant for digging in holes.
The smaller the dog the better they are at sniffing out moles.
The dog should be able to locate the mole quickly and dig it out.
The mole will either flee, or be killed by the little pup.
Mole Hunting This is a fun way to catch and kill moles, but it can be hard to do without experience.
Mole hunting involves finding the mole itself.
You would have to spend a lot of time learning the runways and see the different patterns the mole makes its trails.
When you have learned the runways, go back every day to inspect the tunnels for expansion.
When you have found a tunnel that is being worked on grab a shovel and hammer.
You may need to watch for the subtle movements in the grass and dirt.
When you find the perfect spot, stab the shovel into the dirt quickly about an inch ahead of the moving dirt, where the mole would be working.
Then proceed to flip the mole out of the ground.
Kill it quickly with the hammer or the shovel.
You may need to practice this many times.
These home remedies for ground moles work well to get rid of moles, but they are not recommended by professionals.
If you are willing to spend a little money some good solutions for ground mole removal are poisoning, trapping or ultrasonic vibrations.
