How to Seal a Sump Pump
- 1). Measure the diameter of the sump pit using a measuring tape. In the absence of a measuring tape, place the plywood over the pit. Using a pencil, draw an outline of the pit on the plywood.
- 2). Saw around the outline of the drawing.
- 3). Glue an appropriately-sized rubber gasket to the plywood cover, using silicone caulk.
- 4). Place the cover over the pit opening, with the rubber gasket facing downward. Seal around the cover using silicone caulk, securing it to the floor.
- 5). Apply caulk around each outlet pipe leading from the cover. Each exit must be made gas and water-resistant.
- 6). Squeeze a small amount of silicone caulk around each discharge pipe's exit point, rendering them air tight.
- 7). Apply caulk around the vent pipe.
- 8). Squeeze caulk around the electric cable's exit point, sealing it.
