- 1). Search for the trademark application using the TESS system. Enter your keyword into the search form. This generates a list of pending and currently registered trademarks. Click on the serial number to get information on the mark including a picture of the design mark, if applicable. Record the serial number of any possible conflicting marks.
- 2). Search using the Public Search Facility. This library is open to the general public with no charge to use their resources. This facility is located at:

Alexandria, VA 22313 - 3). Search using a Patent and Trademark Depository Library (see Resources). These libraries are free to the public. The databases are located on CDs and do not provide images.
- 4). Check the Trademark Applications and Registrations Retrieval database (TARR) to determine whether there is a possible conflicting mark. This database provides the registration status of the conflicting mark. Search this database using the serial number of the mark in question.
