How Not to Bring Bed Bugs Home
With it though comes the chance for bed bugs to start their infestation at your home.
It's not just because they can take over your place in your absence but because they can go back with you.
As you might already know, bed bugs are pests commonly seen in houses.
However, those are not the only places that they can infest.
To anywhere where there could be a source of their meal, they can be present.
And since they feed on blood and their primary hosts are humans, any place with large population can serve as their hiding and breeding spot.
Other places where the said pests can be present are hotels, motels, inns and hospitals.
They can even be present in buses and trains.
And so, when traveling and have to be in these places and means of transportation, you have to be very careful.
Since you can't eliminate bed bugs while in travel, you just have to take precautions.
Your precautions must include steps to carry out before, during and after traveling.
Though they may eat some of your time and may require you a bit of a work, all is worth it.
If you think of the troubles and expenses that the said pests' infestation can bring, implementing simple precautions is nothing much compared to them.
- Travel light - Bring only the things that you will need.
The more things you will bring, the more items the said pests can hide into.
And as much as possible, bring only washable items.
- Seal your mattress - After cleaning up and making sure that no said bugs are in your bed, seal your mattress.
This will prevent them from making a home in there.
There are plastic covers that can be purchased for this specific purpose.
- Check your seat/room - During the travel, always check your seat or room first before settling in.
If in a bus or in a train, check the armrest, the back of your seat and joints and gaps in the chair.
If in a hotel/motel room, check the bed, the wall, the couch and all the furniture for any sign of the said pests.
Report if you have seen any bug or transfer to a different chair or room. - Inspect luggage - Before leaving your room, check your luggage and make sure no bug had crawled into.
- Wash items with hot water - All washable items you brought in your travel must first be washed and dried in hot temperature before letting them in to your house.
This will get rid of bed bugs of all stages if there were some of them that were able to hide and not seen.
And of course, with that is the elimination of all the negative things that the said pests can bring.
