How to Remove the Blower Motor From a 1994 Escort

Removal

• 1). Adjust the passenger’s seat as far back as it will go. Look under the dashboard, just behind the glove box and find the bolts retaining the panel under the glove box. Remove these bolts and pull the panel from under the glove box, exposing the heater box.
  
  
• 2). Trace the wiring from the blower motor until you reach the bracket securing it to the heater box. Remove the bolt securing the bracket and pull the bracket from the heater box.
  
  
• 3). Press and hold the unlocking button on the wiring harness plugging into the blower motor, and pull the harness from the blower motor.
  
  
• 4). Remove the three blower-motor retaining bolts with a ratchet and socket. Pull the blower motor assembly — blower motor and blower wheel — from the heater box.
  
  
• 5). Look on the center of the blower wheel and find the clip securing it to the blower motor. Grab this clip with needle-nose pliers and pull the clip off the blower motor’s shaft. Pull the blower wheel off the blower motor.
  
  

Replacement

• 1). Set the blower wheel on the blower motor’s shaft; the shaft is asymmetrical, so the wheel can only fit one way. Press a new retaining clip — included with the blower motor — onto the shaft and press it downward onto the shaft until it snaps into place.
  
  
• 2). Reinstall the blower motor assembly into the heater box, lining up the bolt holes in the heater box with those in the blower motor. Tighten the three blower motor-retaining bolts with a ratchet and socket.
  
  
• 3). Plug the wiring harness into the receptacle on the blower motor. Reposition the wiring bracket on the heater box and tighten its retaining bolt with a ratchet and socket.
  
  
• 4). Position the cover back into place under the dashboard. Tighten its retaining screws with a ratchet and socket.
