How to Speed Up XP By Turning Off Indexing Services

    • 1). When you run Windows XP on a computer it comes with a program called indexing services. This program is actually pretty useless. To make a long story short, its a program that is run to help make search inquiries on your computer quicker. So if you have a file you need to search for you can find it a little easier with this program. To be honest most people's computers are organized enough so they can find their files. This program isn't completely worthless but the amount of harm it does to your computer doesn't come close to the amount of good its going to do when turning it off.

      The problem with this program is it uses a lot of RAM. The more RAM that is consumed the slower your computer is going to perform. This program can also be very noisy, so if your computer is making strange noises this could also help solve that.

    • 2). You want to start off by clicking on your start button. The little green one in the lower left hand corner of your scree. The one that pulls up all your programs.

    • 3). Now you want to click on your control panel.

    • 4). Click on the options that says Add/Remove programs.

    • 5). Now its going to take a moment to load, depending on how many programs you have installed on your computer.

    • 6). Now click on Add/Remove Windows Components. Its going to pull up another little box. In this box you will see the line item titled "indexing services". You want to uncheck that box and hit next.
