- One remedy that works very well for sinus drainage is by taking a nasal decongestant. The medicine in a decongestant works by constricting the blood vessels in the sinuses so that the fluid and mucus drain out. It will also dry out your mouth and sinuses, so drink some water if your throat becomes excessively dry. Nasal decongestants come in pill form that you can buy at your local drugstore for less than $10. The disadvantage to using a decongestant is that they can sometimes cause headaches and sore throats.
