Signs That You Have Bed Bugs

Bed Bugs measure less than a quarter inch in length, are reddish-brown in color and often go unnoticed until the unsuspecting host and victim awakes to find him/herself with red swellings on the legs, arms, neck, back or any areas that may have been exposed during sleep.
Using a powerful torch, look high and low to find the dreaded signs that you have bugs lurking in your accommodation.
  • Look at the ceilings, the cornices and corners.
  • Look at the walls, the tears in the wall paper, the cracks in the plaster, the gaps in or behind the skirting boards, the light fittings and the light switches.
  • Look at the floor, the cracks in the boards, in and under the carpets and their fringes.
  • Look under the bed covers and pillows.
  • Look under the mattress, on the mattress, (any holes?), in the mattress folds and under the bed.
  • Look at the bed frame, the screw holes and the joints
  • look in your clothes and hunt for the beasties in every nook and cranny
Let' hope you do not have any of the signs that you have bed bugs in your rooms.
Now, using your torch, this is what to look for:
  • Nests of tiny bed bugs and their fecal matter in all possible bug resting places
  • Tiny blood spots on your sheets.
  • Small brown flecks of bed bug feces on the sheets or floors.
  • A sweet-smelling aroma, produced from bug's glands, wafting around the room.
  • Live bugs creeping around, usually after midnight but sometimes earlier in the night.
  • Bites on the exposed parts of the body during sleep.
  • Bites that itch only about an hour after the actual bite.
If you find signs that you have bed bugs, do get advice from your local pest control centre.
They will be able to tell you the best and quickest way to get rid of this most unwelcome household pests.
