- 1). Add a throw pillow to the chair for some color and cushion. Use a large, square pillow in the center of the chair or a smaller pillow tucked off to one side. Choose pillows in patterns and colors that add texture and a boost of color to the room. Simple brown armchairs, like those in leather, can have a pillow with rich texture. Brown chairs with texture benefit from simpler pillows. Try a suede pillow to complement a brown, leather chair. Use red or orange to add a warm hue to the chair.

Lay the throw so it hangs off one side of the chair so the chair's fabric is still visible. Alternate the throws for different seasons.
